1 Abstrakt Ledňáček říční (Alcedo atthis) představuje unikátní modelový druh pro studium evolučních adaptací rybožravého predátora na vysoce dynamické a nestabilní říční ekosystémy. Tato disertační práce se zabývá komplexním studiem hnízdní biologie, potravní ekologie a postnatálního vývoje ledňáčka říčního. Zkoumá vliv povodní na potravu ledňáčka říčního, teplotu v přirozených hnízdních norách, specifickou reprodukční strategii kombinující r- a K- strategii a zcela unikátní růst mláďat. První publikace ukazuje, že katastrofické povodně nemají zásadní vliv na potravu ledňáčka říčního, protože je oportunistickým predátorem. Ledňáček po katastrofické povodni nehladověl, jen byl nucen lovit ryby větší a těžší v porovnání s běžnou situací před povodní. Druhá publikace prezentuje naprosto jedinečné výsledky z kontinuálního měření teploty pomocí dataloggerů v přirozených hnízdních norách ledňáčka říčního. Výsledky ukázaly velmi specifické tepelné podmínky v hnízdních norách, a to relativně stabilní a nízké teploty půdy, které ovlivňují veškerý průběh hnízdění. Z průběhu teploty v noře bylo možné zjistit začátek inkubace a kdy byla mláďata vyvedena, případně kdy skončilo hnízdění neúspěchem, naopak nebylo možné zjistit, kdy nastalo líhnutí mláďat. Výsledky třetí publikace vycházející z dat z 8 hnízdních sezon... 1 Abstract The Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) represents a unique model species for studying the evolutionary adaptations of a piscivorous predator to highly dynamic and unstable river ecosystems. This dissertation focuses on a comprehensive investigation of the breeding biology, feeding ecology, and postnatal development of the Common Kingfisher. It examines the effect of floods on the kingfisher's diet, the temperature conditions inside natural nest burrows, the species' specific reproductive strategy combining r- and K- strategies, and its entirely unique chick growth patterns. The first publication shows that catastrophic floods do not have a significant impact on the kingfisher's diet, because it is an opportunistic predator. The kingfisher did not starve after the catastrophic flood but was simply forced to hunt larger and heavier fish compared to the normal situation before the flood. The second publication presents absolutely unique results from continuous temperature measurements using dataloggers in the kingfisher's natural nesting burrows. The results showed very specific thermal conditions in nesting burrows, namely relatively stable and low soil temperatures, which affect the entire course of nesting.
