Práce srovnává patentovou aktivitu domácích firem v regionech Česka, Slovenska, Polska a Maďarska na úrovni NUTS 2 za období 2014-2024. Data pocházejí z komerční databáze PatSnap a jsou analyzována pomocí Spearmanovy korelační analýzy, hierarchické shlukové analýzy a WIPO technologické klasifikace. Výsledky ukazují, že domácí firmy tvoří hlavní znalostní základnu sledovaných regionů, patentují v širokém spektru technologických oborů a jejich aktivita nejsilněji koreluje s regionálním inovačním indexem, technologickou diverzitou a HDP v PPS na obyvatele. Zahraniční firmy se soustředí do metropolitních regionů s kvalitním institucionálním prostředím, patentují v užším spektru oborů a vyšší valuace jejich patentů nemusí představovat přímý přínos pro domácí region, neboť strategická hodnota je prostřednictvím vlastnických struktur často vázána na domovskou zemi mateřské společnosti. Shluková analýza odhalila, že technologické profily regionů překračují státní hranice a jsou formovány spíše pozicí v globálních hodnotových řetězcích než státní příslušností. Práce rovněž identifikuje kompromis mezi kvantitou a kvalitou patentů u domácích firem, který odráží jejich pozici převážně dodavatelů nižších řádů. Klíčová slova: patenty, konkurenční výhoda, regionální inovační systémy, znalostní základny This thesis compares domestic patent activity of companies across NUTS 2 regions of Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary for the period 2014-2024. Data from the PatSnap commercial database are analysed using Spearman correlation analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis, and the WIPO technology classification. The results show that domestic firms constitute the main knowledge base of the studied regions, patent across a broad range of technological fields, and their activity correlates most strongly with the Regional Innovation Index, technological diversity, and GDP in PPS per capita. Foreign firms concentrate in metropolitan regions with high-quality institutional environments, patent in a narrower range of fields, and the higher valuation of their patents may not represent a direct benefit to the host region, as strategic value is tied to the home country of the parent company through ownership structures. Cluster analysis revealed that regional technological profiles transcend national borders and are shaped more by positioning within global value chains than by national affiliation. The thesis also identifies a trade-off between patent quantity and quality among domestic firms, reflecting their position as predominantly lower-tier suppliers.
