Ptáci travnatých porostů vykazují v posledních desetiletích prudké populační poklesy. Řada z nich, původně osidlujících přirozené habitaty, dnes ke svému životu využívá člověkem vytvořené prostředí, a právě lidská činnost je obecně považována za nejvýznamnější faktor jejich úbytku. Tato práce charakterizuje podobu travnatých porostů a jejich ptačích společenstev v Evropě, včetně typických ekologických vlastností těchto druhů. Primárně se však zabývá hlavními faktory úbytku těchto druhů a způsoby jejich ochrany. Rozebrány jsou také dopady různých způsobů managementu, především pastvy a sečení, na tyto ptáky. Analýzou dostupných zdrojů byly nejpodstatnějšími činiteli úbytku těchto druhů identifikovány intenzifikace zemědělství na travnatých plochách za účelem vyšších výnosů a opouštění neproduktivních ploch vedoucí k jejich zániku. Podstatné však mohou být i další faktory, především změna klimatu a vliv invazních druhů. Strategie ochrany jsou založeny zejména na vytyčování chráněných území, minimalizaci negativních dopadů zemědělských technik a jejich extenzifikaci, která má při správném přístupu a dostatečných náhradách pro zemědělce potenciál vytvořit systém výhodný pro člověka i ptáky. Přetrvávající negativní populační trendy však poukazují na nedostatečnost a nízkou míru využívání nynějších... Grassland birds have experienced steep population declines in the recent decades. Although they originally inhabited natural habitats such as steppes, many species now rely on anthropogenic environments, where human activity is considered the primary driver of their decline. This thesis characterizes European grasslands and their avian communities, including their ecological traits. However, it primarily focuses on the main causes of species loss and potential conservation strategies. It also examines the impacts of various management practices, particularly grazing and mowing. The analysis of literature identified agricultural intensification for higher yields and the abandonment of unproductive land as the most significant factors. Other contributing drivers include climate change and the influence of invasive species. Conservation strategies are primarily based on the establishment of protected areas, the minimization of negative impacts from agricultural techniques, and their extensification. With proper implementation and adequate farmer compensation, extensification holds great potential for creating a system beneficial to both humans and birds.
