V súčasnosti predstavuje znečistenie odpadových vôd mikropolutantmi závažný zdravotný a environmentálny problém.
Currently, wastewater pollution by micropollutants poses a serious health and environmental problem. Micropollutants enter wastewater from various sources, such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and personal care products. In response to this issue, the European Union has decided to introduce Directive 2024/3019 on the treatment of municipal wastewater (known as the UWWTD), which, among other things, requires Member States to implement a quaternary stage of treatment. The aim of this thesis is to research the legislative and technological requirements related to quaternary treatment, analyse projects implemented in Germany and Switzerland, and describe technological solutions as well as investment and operating costs. The thesis was written on the basis of domestic and foreign expert sources, which were compared and analysed. The results show that it is not possible to universally apply a single technology, but that individual solutions must be selected according to specific requirements. In addition, it was found that in most cases, a single process is not sufficient to achieve at least 80% efficiency, and a combination of at least two is required. It is also clear that its implementation requires high investments in infrastructure and technology.
