Tématem diplomové práce je architektonická studie zaměřená na návrh nového stadionu pro dráhovou cyklistiku — velodromu Favorit — ve městě Brně. Předmětem řešení je revitalizace území, na němž se v současnosti nachází historický stadion s jednou z nejstarších dosud využívaných velodromových drah v Evropě. Navzdory své mimořádné kulturní a historické hodnotě se stávající objekt nachází v technicky nevyhovujícím až havarijním stavu, který vylučuje jeho další využití pro pořádání soutěží mezinárodní úrovně. Projekt proto reaguje na aktuální potřebu komplexní transformace tohoto území s cílem vytvořit moderní a plně funkční sportovní infrastrukturu. Klíčovým cílem projektu není pouze vytvoření nového velodromu odpovídajícího současným technickým, provozním a estetickým požadavkům, včetně standardů Union Cycliste Internationale, ale také zachování stávající prostorové struktury – „městské tkáně“, v níž je zakotvena historická paměť místa. Stávající stadion je v tomto kontextu vnímán jako neoddělitelná součást této paměti; jeho silueta a urbanistická přítomnost jsou zachovány jako významný prvek identity území. Navrhovaný velodrom je koncipován jako architektonický kompromis mezi minulostí a budoucností. Nesnaží se o stylistickou imitaci historické zástavby, ale vytváří s ní vědomý dialog, v němž se rozdílnost jednotlivých epoch stává součástí architektonického vyjádření. Současný charakter objektu se projevuje prostřednictvím jeho formy, konstrukčního řešení a použitých materiálů, přičemž nová budova je citlivě integrována do stávajícího kontextu a navazuje na historický vývoj místa, nikoliv jej popírá. Z funkčního hlediska je objekt řešen jako jednotný stavební objem organizovaný systémem vzájemně propojených prostor a úrovní. Dispoziční struktura vychází z oválné konfigurace stadionu s jasně definovaným zónováním a systémem vnitřních komunikací. Závodní dráha je umístěna na úrovni druhého nadzemního podlaží, což umožňuje optimalizaci provozních vazeb a efektivní organizaci vnitřního prostoru. Významným aspektem návrhu je rovněž práce s přirozeným denním osvětlením, které přispívá ke zvýšení kvality vnitřního prostředí v rámci velkoobjemového prostoru budovy. Důležitým prvkem konceptu je zachování stávajícího betonového velodromu, který si navzdory nesouladu se současnými požadavky na délku dráhy pro mezinárodní soutěže uchovává svou historickou i funkční hodnotu. Nadále je využíván jako tréninková a veřejná infrastruktura a stává se spojovacím prvkem mezi minulostí a novým architektonickým objemem. Projekt přesahuje rámec čistě sportovního zařízení a vytváří multifunkční veřejný prostor orientovaný jak na profesionální sport, tak na široké spektrum uživatelů. Do struktury komplexu jsou integrovány doplňkové funkce veřejného, rekreačního a vzdělávacího charakteru, stejně jako prostory pro potřeby cyklistického klubu Favorit Brno, což posiluje společenský význam objektu a jeho roli v městském prostředí. Navržený architektonický přístup tak vytváří nejen moderní sportovní komplex odpovídající mezinárodním požadavkům, ale také symbolický prostor reflektující kontinuitu rozvoje cyklistického sportu a městské kultury, který upevňuje vztah mezi historií, současností a budoucností města.
The topic of this diploma thesis is an architectural study focused on the design of a new track cycling stadium — the Favorit velodrome — in the city of Brno. The project focuses on the revitalization of the area where the historic stadium is currently located, including one of the oldest track cycling circuits in Europe that is still in use today. Despite its exceptional cultural and historical value, the existing facility is in poor technical condition and is considered unsafe, which makes it impossible to continue using it for international-level competitions. For this reason, the project responds to the current need for a complete transformation of the area and the creation of a modern, fully functional sports infrastructure. The main goal of the project is not only to create a new velodrome that meets current technical, operational, and aesthetic requirements, including the standards of the Union Cycliste Internationale, but also to preserve the existing spatial structure — the urban fabric — that holds the historical memory of the place. The existing stadium is seen as an important part of this memory. Its silhouette and urban presence are preserved as a meaningful part of the identity of the area. The proposed velodrome is designed as an architectural balance between the past and the future. It does not try to imitate the historical architecture in style, but instead creates a clear dialogue with it, where the contrast between different time periods becomes part of the architectural concept. The modern character of the building is expressed through its form, structure, and materials, while the new building is respectfully integrated into the existing context, continuing the story of the place rather than denying it. Functionally, the building is designed as a single volume organized through a system of connected spaces and levels. The layout is based on the oval shape of the stadium, with clear zoning and an internal circulation system. The racing track is located on the second aboveground floor, which helps optimize movement flows and ensures efficient use of space. An important part of the design is also the use of natural daylight, which improves the quality of the interior environment in the large building volume. An important part of the concept is the preservation of the existing concrete cycling track. Although it does not meet current international competition requirements in terms of length, it still has value as a historical and functional element. It will continue to be used as training and public infrastructure, creating a connection between the past and the new architectural structure. The project goes beyond the idea of a sports building only and creates a multifunctional public space intended for both professional sport and a wider group of users. The complex includes additional public, recreational, and educational functions, as well as spaces for the needs of the Favorit Brno cycling club. This increases the social importance of the project and strengthens its role in city life. The proposed architectural approach therefore creates not only a modern sports complex that meets international requirements, but also a symbolic space that reflects the continuity of cycling sport and urban culture, strengthening the connection between the history, present, and future of the city.
