This bachelor thesis deals with the investigation of the influence of isostatic hot pressing on the mechanical properties of steel samples produced using metal injection moulding technology. The aim is to observe the effect of samples’ time under pressure in the press cylinder on their resulting microstructure, to characterize how the change in structure affects the samples’ mechanical properties, and to investigate whether varying the time under pressure affects the microstructure of the samples after further heat treatment. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the basic knowledge of iron, steel, the technology of production, heat treatment and secondary metallurgic treatment of steel, alloying, the Fe-Fe3C system’s microstructure and phase transitions, and finally about the use of steel with emphasis on the weapons industry. The experimental part is devoted to the observation of changes occurring within the samples’ microstructure, and the comparison of their mechanical properties such as tensile strength, contractive yield strength, impact toughness, ductility, contraction, and microhardness of the observed steel phases. The properties are investigated in samples pressed for 30, 90 and 150 minutes, as well as samples heat treated by quenching and tempering on top of the same pressing durations.
