Abstract: This thesis focuses on the biogeographic patterns of Indian butterflies, their interactions with megafauna, and their responses to environmental factors across the country's diverse landscapes. The thesis is introduced with an overview of India and its butterflies, highlighting both their colonial and modern documentation, and includes a discussion of Indian megafauna and their relationship with butterflies. The core part of the thesis consists of four studies. The first and second studies present the first comprehensive, nationwide analyses of macroecological patterns of Indian butterflies, including biogeographic affinities, ecological preferences, and life-history traits. The third study investigates the effects of megafauna on tropical butterflies in the national parks of northeastern India for the first time. Finally, the fourth study explores the seasonality of tropical butterflies in a northeastern Indian national park and their associated environmental factors.
