The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to examine communication barriers in informal communication among Czechs caused by knowledge of video games and video game slang, both within the gaming community and the public. The theoretical part introduces video game slang, its usage, and related phenomena such as video games, translanguaging, anglicisms and informal communication. The practical part analyses questionnaire responses to answer three research questions: first, what are the positive and negative effects of video gaming slang on understanding in informal communication; second, which age groups show higher or lower understanding of video game slang; and third, in what ways is video game slang used outside of gaming context. Findings show that video game slang can both hinder and facilitate communication, improving communication among familiar users but causing misunderstanding across groups. Age is a significant factor, with younger participants showing higher comprehension and engagement, while older participants display lower familiarity. Video game slang also spreads beyond gaming contexts, with participants adapting expressions to everyday communication, including among non-players. Cílem této bakalářské práce je zkoumat komunikační bariéry v neformální komunikaci mezi Čechy způsobené znalostí videoher a videoherního slangu, a to jak v rámci herní komunity, tak v širší veřejnosti. Teoretická část představuje videoherní slang, jeho použití a související jevy, jako jsou videohry, translanguaging, anglicismy a neformální komunikace. Praktická část analyzuje výsledky dotazníku, aby odpověděla na tři výzkumné otázky: zaprvé, jaké jsou pozitivní a negativní dopady videoherního slangu na porozumění v neformální komunikaci; zadruhé, které věkové skupiny vykazují vyšší či nižší porozumění videohernímu slangu; a zatřetí, jakým způsobem je videoherní slang používán mimo herní kontext. Výsledky ukazují, že videoherní slang může komunikaci jak usnadňovat, tak komplikovat, jelikož zlepšuje efektivitu mezi znalými uživateli, ale může vést k nedorozuměním mezi různými skupinami. Věk se ukázal jako významný faktor, přičemž mladší účastníci projevují vyšší porozumění a zapojení, zatímco starší účastníci vykazují nižší znalosti. Videoherní slang se rovněž šíří mimo herní kontext a účastníci přizpůsobují některé výrazy každodenní komunikaci, i včetně nehráčů.
