This bachelor's thesis deals with the design, implementation, and experimental verification of an innovative vehicle cooling system concept that utilizes magnetic forces to drive the working fluid. The aim of the thesis is to investigate the possibilities of thermomagnetic convection and to verify the potential of a ferrofluid containing magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4) as an advanced heat transfer fluid that would enable pumpless circulation. The literature review describes the physical principles of magnetic fluids, their stability, and the influence of the Curie temperature. The practical part is dedicated to the construction of a testing circuit and the subsequent measurement of heat transfer. The experimental results confirmed that the application of an external magnetic field induces forced circulation of the ferrofluid (thermomagnetic drive); however, this phenomenon is strongly dependent on the geometric complexity and hydraulic resistance of the circuit. Furthermore, during testing of the system with an auxiliary mechanical pump, an anomalous non-linear increase in thermal power of 41,2 % (from 228 W to 322 W) was identified at a critical nanoparticle volume concentration of 3,7 %. This sharp increase is explained by the formation of percolating structures that dramatically enhance the effective thermal conductivity of the medium. The acquired findings point to the potential use of ferrofluids for noiseless and highly efficient cooling of specific components in the automotive industry.
