Tento prístup spája kritickú rovnováhu medzi zachovaním kultúrnych hodnôt vlastných modernému dedičstvu a environmentálnou nevyhnutnosťou zachovania zdrojov prostredníctvom adaptívneho opätovného využitia. Jadrom zásahu je strategické otvorenie historicky uzavretej fasády s cieľom obnoviť dialóg s verejným priestorom a vložiť nový, flexibilný program.
This thesis addresses the critical architectural challenge posed by postwar technical infrastructure that has become technologically obsolete. The main problem is rapid obsolescence and the subsequent threat of demolition faced by post-war technical and infrastructure buildings, especially those designed for a single, inflexible purpose. Buildings such as automatic telephone exchanges (ATEs) were conceived as long-term infrastructure, but rapid technological progress (the transition from analog to digital telecommunications) caused their basic function to become obsolete within a few decades. This thesis focuses specifically on a robust, five-story, cube-shaped automatic telephone exchange (ATE) building in the center of Nitra. The building, constructed around 1985, is a typical example of architecture entirely dictated by its unique program. With the transition to digital technology, the building lost its function and became an empty, introverted structure in a lucrative urban location. The proposed conversion strategy aims to liberate the architecture from its technical determinism by transforming the building into a vital, lively, and open public space for the city. This approach strikes a critical balance between preserving the cultural values inherent in modern heritage and the environmental necessity of conserving resources through adaptive reuse. At the core of the intervention is the strategic opening of the historically closed facade with the aim of reestablishing a dialogue with the public space and introducing new program.
