Addressing the challenges of robust and reliable smart network operation requires the development of new strategies for the operation, monitoring, and control of the power system. The dissertation provides a detailed description and analysis of an IEC 61850-9-2 sampled value-based digital system to monitor a local smart MV distribution network. The primary focus is investigating whether the accuracy of the communication protocols and digital measurement technologies used meets the accuracy requirements indicated in the applicable standards. The next point is to evaluate the performance of the real-time monitoring system by analysing the digital measurements-based power calculation algorithm. Additionally, the power calculation uncertainty is assessed by comparing two methods: Type A that relies on simulation and Type B that uses mathematical expressions. An integral part of the work is a description of the established monitoring system, including the digital measurement sensors used, communication protocols, and data processing algorithms, as well as experimental findings for the analysis and evaluation objectives pursued in this work.
