Abstract: This thesis investigates the evolution of plant-animal consumer resource mutualism. I aimed to extend our understanding on how mutualistic interactions can influence the evolutionary trajectories of interacting plant and animal, where plants act as resource providers while animal are consumers. I also aimed to investigate how mutualism itself can evolve, for example the conditions for its maintenance and the evolution of specialism/generalism. The three main chapters of this thesis investigate different evolutionary aspects of mutualism by using a variety of mathematical models and three different timescales: behavioral, ecological and evolutionary. The theoretical outcomes of these models provide interesting insights for evolutionary ecologists on the maintenance of plant-animal mutualism and on plant-pollinator coevolution
