Obnova lesů na degradovaných půdách je náročná, protože tyto půdy jsou často bez dostatečného přísunu organického materiálu, mají nevhodné fyzikální, chemické a biologické vlastnosti a nedokážou přirozeně zajistit podmínky pro růst náročnějších dřevin. Pionýrské dřeviny však díky své toleranci stresu, rychlému růstu a meliorační schopnosti představují klíčový nástroj pro obnovu takových půd. Tato práce shrnuje současné poznatky o tom, jak pionýrské dřeviny zlepšují půdní strukturu, zvyšují obsah organické hmoty, upravují pH, podporují rozvoj edafonu a vytvářejí mikroklima nezbytné pro uchycení klimaxových druhů. Cílové dřeviny mají rozdílné nároky na půdní vlastnosti a mikroklima stanoviště podobně jako pionýři. Volba konkrétních přípravných dřevin (pionýrů) může ovlivnit úspěšnost následné obnovy lesa, meliorační účinky jednoho druhu pionýra totiž nemusí vytvářet vhodné prostředí pro všechny druhy klimaxů. Dále jsou identifikovány oblasti, ve kterých by byl přínosný další výzkum, konkrétně využití méně častých pionýrských druhů, konkrétní kombinace pionýrů a cílových dřevin nebo mechanismy přirozené sukcese. Klíčová slova: pionýrské dřeviny, klimaxové dřeviny, meliorace, degradace, půda, sukcese, rekultivace, obnova lesů Restoring forests on degraded soils is challenging because these soils often lack sufficient organic matter, have unsuitable physical, chemical, and biological properties, and are unable to naturally provide conditions for the growth of more demanding tree species. However, thanks to their stress tolerance, rapid growth, and ameliorative capacity, pioneer tree species are a key tool for restoring such soils. This paper summarizes current knowledge on how pioneer trees improve soil structure, increase organic matter content, adjust pH, promote the development of edaphon, and create the microclimate necessary for the establishment of climax species. Target tree species have different requirements for soil properties and microclimate of the site, similar to pioneers. The choice of specific preparatory tree species (pioneers) can influence the success of subsequent forest restoration, as the ameliorative effects of one pioneer species may not create a suitable environment for all climax species. Furthermore, areas are identified where further research would be beneficial, specifically the use of less common pioneer species, specific combinations of pioneers and target tree species, or mechanisms of natural succession.
