eng Abstract:
[eng][cze] The position of women in Montenegro has long remained underexplored in both historiography and the social sciences. In the absence of an institutionalized gender studies program, research in this field lacks a systematic foundation, remaining scattered across individual dissertations, exhibitions, and thematic projects, without forming a cohesive scholarly framework. Women's agency, voices, and contributions have often been overlooked, while persistent inequalities, ranging from inheritance practices and the cult of the male child to gender-based violence and derogatory media portrayals of women in public life, indicate that legacies of the past continue to shape women's status today. These enduring issues raise the question of how women's emancipation in Montenegro unfolded across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and to what extent broader political transformations created opportunities or obstacles for gender equality. The dissertation engages with three major theoretical debates that structure its hypotheses. The first builds on the debate between Nanette Funk and Kristen Ghodsee regarding women's agency under socialism. In line with Ghodsee's position, it argues that women in socialist Montenegro exercised genuine agency, even when their initiatives, such as literacy campaigns or...Postavení žen v Černé Hoře zůstává nedostatečně prozkoumané jak v historiografii, tak v sociálních vědách.
