This thesis focuses on biology, population ecology, and the conservation of two butterfly species, the Marsh Fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia) and the Scarce Fritillary (Euphydryas maturna). The thesis is introduced with a summary describing the current biodiversity crisis, the taxonomical position of Euphydryas genera and its members, and information about the distribution, biology, and conservation of both target species. Then it consists of four studies. The first study describes population fluctuations of the only native population of E. maturna. The other three studies focus on the other species, E. aurinia. The second study describes vegetation changes at sites with occurrence of the species; the third study focuses on the role of Hymenopteran larvae parasitoids, and the last study evaluates the long-term monitoring and conservation of this endangered species in the Czech Republic. Tato práce je zaměřena na biologii, populační ekologii a ochranu dvou druhů motýlů, hnědáska chrastavcového (Euphydryas aurinia) a hnědáska osikového (Euphydryas maturna). Práce je uvedena shrnutím popisujícím současnou krizi biodiverzity, taxonomickým zařazením rodu Euphydryas a jeho zástupců a informacemi o rozšíření, biologii a ochraně obou cílových druhů. Poté se skládá ze čtyř studií. První studie popisuje populační fluktuace jediné původní populace E. maturna. Další tři studie se zaměřují na druhý druh, E. aurinia. Druhá studie popisuje změny vegetace na lokalitách s výskytem tohoto druhu; třetí studie se zaměřuje na roli blanokřídlých parazitoidů larev a poslední studie hodnotí dlouhodobý monitoring a ochranu tohoto ohroženého druhu v České republice.
