The focus of this thesis will examine the development of literary voice in the works of African American authors, particularly about the search for an authentic black voice in American literature. The thesis traces the journey from the autobiographical narratives of the 18th and 19th centuries to the emergence of the literary movement, and its associated publications, the Harlem Renaissance. Special attention is paid to the author Zora Neale Hurston, whose language and style did not fit into the local literary society, especially her novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God. This thesis highlights Hurston's efforts to preserve African American cultural practices by emphasizing folklore and oral traditions. Hurston thus develops a new narrative model that gives space to the diversity of identities within African American culture and challenges the normative idea of a singular, unified literary voice. This thesis will be written in English. Tato bakalářská práce se bude zabývat vývojem literárního hlasu v dílech afroamerických autorů, zejména v souvislosti s hledáním autentického černošského hlasu v americké literatuře. Práce sleduje cestu od autobiografických vyprávění 18. a 19. století až po vznik literárního hnutí, a s ním spojených publikací, Harlémské Renesance. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována autorce Zora Neale Hurston, které svým vyjadřováním a stylem nezapadala do tamnější literarní společnosti, a zejména jejímu románu Their Eyes Were Watching God. Cílem této práce je poukázat na Hurstoninu snahu o zachovnání afroamercikých kulturních zvyků kladením důrazu na folklor a orální tradice. Hurston tak objevuje nový model vyprávění, který dává proctor různorodosti identit v rámci afroamericaké kultury a staví se tak proti normativnímu pojetí jednotného literárního hlasu. Práce bude napsána v anglickém jazyce.
