The thesis focuses on Jack London's novels White Fang and The Call of the Wild, where mastery is one of the key themes, as both canine protagonists, White Fang and Buck, experience various forms of human mastery and control. The thesis pays attention mainly to the last masters of the canine heroes, Weedon Scott and John Thornton, who are traditionally perceived as loving and kind, influencing the canine protagonists' lives in a positive light. Nevertheless, such a view comes from a human perspective, not the animal one. Considering the animal perspective, the final endings of the novels are not as clear-cut as they might seem, especially due to White Fang and Buck's ambivalent role between wilderness and civilisation, and the main aim of this work is to determine whether the canines' lives, significantly affected by Weedon Scott and John Thornton, are not rather sad and tragic. Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na dva romány od Jacka Londona, Bílý tesák a Volání divočiny, kde je jedním z klíčových témat nadvláda a ovládání, neboť oba psí protagonisté těchto románů, Bílý tesák a Buck, zažívají různé formy lidské nadvlády a kontroly. Práce se zabývá především posledními pány psích hrdinů, Weedonem Scottem a Johnem Thorntonem, kteří jsou tradičně vnímáni jako milující a laskaví páni, pozitivně ovlivňující životy obou psích protagonistů. Takový pohled však vychází z lidské, nikoliv zvířecí perspektivy. Zvážíme-li právě zvířecí perspektivu, samotné konce románů nejsou tak jednoznačné, jak by se mohlo zdát, zejména kvůli ambivalentní roli Bílého tesáka a Bucka mezi divočinou a civilizací, a hlavním cílem této práce je určit, zda osudy psích hrdinů významně ovlivněny Weedonem Scottem a Johnem Thorntonem, nekončí spíše smutně a tragicky.
