The thesis will offer a comparative analysis of two famous fantasy series, Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, as examples of heroic fantasy with spiritual content. The theoretical part of the thesis will be devoted to the influence of mythology and the Bible on the development of fantasy literature, especially with regard to the relationship between good and evil, courage and fear, life and death. An individual chapter will briefly discuss the relationship of both authors to the biblical and mythological traditions and their connection to literary works (Tolkien's essay "On Fairy-Stories"). The literary analysis will focus on the parallels between particular heroes of both series (humans, wizards, hobbits, elves and dwarves in Tolkien's series; humans, animals and supernatural beings in Lewis's) and the characters from mythological and biblical (including the Old and the New Testaments) stories. In the final summary, the thesis will touch on how the parallels found relate to the moral development of the characters in both works and to the ethical content of the adventure plots. Náplní diplomové práce bude srovnávací analýza dvou slavných fantasy sérií, Tolkienova Pána prstenů a Lewisových Letopisů Narnie jako příkladů hrdinské fantasy s duchovním obsahem. Teoretická část práce bude věnována vlivu mytologie a Bible na vývoj fantastické literatury, zvláště s ohledem na vztah mezi dobrem a zlem, odvahou a strachem, životem a smrtí. Samostatná kapitola krátce přiblíží vztah obou autorů k biblické i mytologické tradici a k jejímu propojení s literární tvorbou (Tolkienova esej "On Fairy-Stories"). Literární analýza bude zaměřena na hledání paralel mezi konkrétními hrdiny obou sérií (lidé, čarodějové, hobiti, elfové a trpaslíci u Tolkiena; lidé, zvířata a nadpřirozené bytosti u Lewise) a postavami z mytologie i z biblických (starozákonních i novozákonních) příběhů. V závěrečném shrnutí se práce dotkne otázky, jak nalezené paralely souvisí s morálním vývojem postav v obou dílech a s etickým obsahem dobrodružných zápletek.
