This thesis explores the representation of gay identity in two contemporary novels: Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski and The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst. Through textual analysis, this examination explores how gay identity is shaped narratively and emotionally. In this regard, it focuses mainly on the role of shame in the formation of the gay identity of the novels' protagonists. This is explored using queer and affect theory. The thesis is written in English. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá reprezentací gay identity ve dvou současných románech: Swimming in the Dark od Tomasze Jedrowského a The Line of Beauty od Alana Hollinghursta. Pomocí textové analýzy zkoumá, jak je gay identita formována na narativní a emocionální úrovni. V tomto ohledu se práce zaměřuje především na roli studu při utváření identity hlavních postav obou románů. Analýza vychází z queer teorie a teorie afektu. Práce je psána v angličtině.
