This thesis aims to analyze the theoretical and symbolic discrepancies in how the EU and NATO conceptualize European security. The main theoretical framework used in this thesis to analyze the theoretical and symbolic dimensions of European security is strategic culture. It is interpreted in constructivist terms, with a special focus on the securitization of threats and the production of hegemony. A two-case study of strategic documents from the EU and NATO is conducted using interpretivist analytical methodology, such as discourse analysis. For the purpose of subsequent comparative analysis, several dimensions of strategic culture are operationalised. Analysis reveals that the strategic cultures of the EU and NATO are largely compatible in most aspects. The main discrepancy stems from NATO's preference for military instruments of power, such as power projection and active intervention. The EU prefers diplomacy and humanitarian means. Both organisations use their strategic documents to securitise new issues as threats to their security. Cílem této práce je analýza teoretických a symbolických neshod v tom, jak EU a NATO pojímají evropskou bezpečnost. Hlavním teoretickým rámcem, který se v předložené práci používá za účelem analýzy teoretických a symbolických dimenzí evropské bezpečnosti, je strategická kultura. Ta je interpretována konstruktivisticky, zvláštní pozornost je věnována sekuritizací hrozeb a produkci hegemonie. Za použití interpretivistické analytické metodologe, jako například diskurzivní analýza, je provedená dvoupřípadová studie strategických dokumentů EU a NATO. Za účelem následné komparativní analýzy, je provedena operacionalizace několika dimenzí strategické kultury. Analýza odhalila, že strategické kultury EU a NATO jsou velmi kompatibilní ve větší aspektů. Hlavní neshody pramení z toho, že NATO preferuje vojenské mocenské nástroje jako mocenská projekce a aktivní intervence. EU preferuje diplomacii a humanitární nástroje. Obě organizace používají své strategické dokumenty za účelem sekuritizace nových věcí jako hrozeb pro svou bezpečnost.
