Elektrokonvulzivní terapie (EKT), ačkoliv je jednou z nejúčinnějších léčebných metod závažných psychických onemocnění, je často vnímána laickou i odbornou veřejností negativně. Teoretická část této práce představuje metodu EKT z historického i současného pohledu, její moderní provedení, využití, nežádoucí účinky a stigma, které tuto metodu léčby, bohužel, dodnes doprovází. Další část obsahuje systematický přehled již publikovaných zahraničních studií na téma znalostí a postoje studentů medicíny k EKT. Ve výzkumné části je uvedena metodika a výsledky vlastního výzkumu realizovanému mezi studenty všeobecného lékařství 1. lékařské fakulty Univerzity Karlovy během jejich stáže na Psychiatrické klinice 1. LF UK a VFN v Praze. Studie mapuje znalosti a postoj studentů medicíny k EKT v České republice a možné pozitivní ovlivnění postojů pomocí vhodné edukace zahrnující i praktickou ukázku EKT. Celkem 220 studentů bylo rozděleno do dvou skupin, kdy první skupina reálný výkon EKT neměla možnost shlédnout a druhá skupina, která byla celému procesu EKT přítomna a současně edukována odborníkem z EKT týmu. Postoje a znalosti obou skupin byly hodnoceny prostřednictvím originálního dotazníku vytvořeného pro účely této studie. Názory těchto dvou skupin se výrazně lišily, studenti z druhé skupiny (přítomni celému... Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is one of the most effective methods of treatment of severe mental disorders. However, it is often perceived negatively by both general public and professionals. Theoretical part of this work represents ECT from historical and modern point of view, describe its modern use, side effects and stigma unfortunately still surrounding this method of treatment. Afterwards, we provide a systematic review of already published studies on the topic of medical students' knowledge of and attitudes toward ECT. In research part, we present methods and results of an original research conducted among general medicine students from First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague during their internship at Psychiatric Clinic 1. LF UK and VFN in Prague. The study maps knowledge and attitude towards ECT of medical students in the Czech Republic and a possible change in this knowledge and attitude when being educated properly including observation of the treatment.
