Tato práce se zabývá tematikou japonského čajového obřadu v díle Tisíc jeřábů od spisovatele Kawabaty Jasunariho, který je znám tím, že ve svých dílech po 2. světové válce konfrontoval tradiční japonské disciplíny s životem v moderní japonské společnosti. Cílem práce je charakterizovat motivy čajového obřadu, zjistit, jak je Kawabata v díle zobrazuje u jednotlivých literárních postav nejen z poválečné generace a dokázat, že Kawabata tyto motivy aktivně využívá jako prostředky ke kritice moderní japonské společnosti a kritiky úpadku čajového obřadu samotného. Z analýzy vyplývá, že Kawabata motivy čajového obřadu v díle četně využívá, dává je do kontrastu s mladou i starší generací a využívá je jako nástroj jak pro svou kritiku, tak i k představení krásy tradičního Japonska. V první části práce představuji autora, čajový obřad a metodologii. Ve druhé části se věnuji samotnému románu s vybranými motivy. Teoreticky se práce opírá o naratologickou terminologii Mieke Balové v Narratology: Introduction to the Theory of Narrative (2017). This paper examines the theme of the Japanese tea ceremony in Thousand Cranes by Kawabata Yasunari, a writer known for confronting traditional Japanese disciplines with life in modern Japanese society in his post-World War II works. The aim of this thesis is to characterize the motifs of the tea ceremony, to determine how Kawabata depicts them in this work in particular literary characters, not only from the postwar generation, and to show that Kawabata actively uses these motifs as a means to criticize modern Japanese society and to criticize the decline of the tea ceremony itself. The analysis shows that Kawabata makes numerous use of tea ceremony motifs in the work, contrasting them with both the young and older generations and using them as a tool for both his critique and to present the beauty of traditional Japan. In the first part of the thesis, I introduce the author, the tea ceremony, and the methodology. In the second part, I discuss the novel itself with selected motifs. Theoretically, the thesis draws on Mieke Bal's narratological terminology in Narratology: Introduction to the Theory of Narrative (2017).
