Tato práce se věnuje Čechům v Londýně. Jejím cílem je zásadním způsobem odpovědět na otázku, jak se utváří češství u Čechů žijících v Londýně, jak se projevuje a jestli česká diaspora v Londýně tvoří sociální entitu na způsob komunity či jsou jejich životy spíše individualizované. Teoretické zázemí práce leží v práci současných myslitelů; v uvažování o transnacionální migraci Niny Click Schiller, v pojetí diaspory jako místa performace a spoluzodpovědnosti Pniny Werbner , ale využívá i nacionalismu na dálku Benedicta Andersohna a teorii slabých vazeb Marka Granovettera. Poznatky byly získány metodou smíšených metod, konkrétně jsem rozvedla poznatky získané kvantitativním výzkumem polostrukturalizavnými rozhovory a autoetnografií založenou na své desetileté zkušeností v Londýně. Zjistila jsem, že Češi v Londýně stále zůstávají Čechy, s tím, že zatímco některé vede zkušenost života zahraničí k zapojení se do krajanských aktivit, dodržování českých zvyklostí a udržení si jazyka, jak nejlépe dovedou, jiní k těmto otázkám přistupují spíše pragmatickým způsobem. Co se týče koheze diaspory, ukazuje se, že přestože Češi v Londýně se sdružují do víceméně nezávislých a často konkurujících si ostrůvků dle svých zájmů a preferencí, tak Čech Čechovi (téměř) vždy pomůže. This thesis is focused on Czechs in London. Its main aim is to research how the Czechness of London Czechs is being made, what are the Czech practises and whether Czechs in London create a singular entity in the sense of community, or if their lives are individualized. Its theoretical core lays in contemporary theory; Nina Glick Schiller's theory of transnational migration, Pnina Werbner's concept of diaspora as a place of co-responsibility and performance, Benedict Anderson's theory of long-distance nationalism, and Mark Granovetter's theory of weak ties. Research was conducted via mixed methods methodology; namely I have explored findings from my quantitative research through qualitative research in the form of semi-structured interviews and autoethnography. I have found out that Czechs take various approaches to their Czechness: Whereas some people have become more patriotic trough their experience of exile which has inspired them to participate in various countrymen activities, following the Czech traditions and preserving their language the best they can, some people have a more pragmatic approach to their ethnic identity.
