cze Abstract:
Objectives: This bachelor's thesis focuses on the awareness of parents and caregivers regarding phenylketonuria, a rare inherited metabolic disorder requiring lifelong dietary treatment. The aim was to assess how caregivers přeseve their level of awareness, which sources of information they use, and in which areas they feel insufficiently informed. Methods: The research was conducted using a quantitative method via a non-standardized online questionnaire, completed by 113 respondents, mainly parents of children with PKU. Results: The results show that most respondents consider themselves relatively well-informed, relying primarily on physicians, patient organizations, and internet sources. However, many also expressed a need for more practical information and educational materials. Conclusions: The thesis highlights the importance of combining various educational approaches and suggests targeted support tailored to the specific needs of different caregiver groups. Although comparable studies were not available, the thesis underlines the significance of subjective self-assessment of awareness and provides recommendations for clinical practice and future research in the field of health literacy concerning rare diseases.
