This thesis explores the potential of prescribed burning as a landscape-management and nature-conservation tool, primarily focusing on conditions in the Czech Republic. The first part synthesizes the historical development and current practice of fire use in North America and Europe, revealing a clear contrast between a region with a long tradition of active fire application and Central Europe, where fire was almost completely suppressed during the 20th century. Through an analysis of scientific papers, legal documents and institutional reports, the study identifies key ecological benefits (herb-layer and heathland regeneration, fuel-load reduction, promotion of pyrophytic species) alongside possible risks (fine-particle emissions, slope runoff and erosion, low public acceptance).Acornerstone of the work is a detailed account of the inaugural prescribed burn in Podyjí National Park (March 2025), demonstrating the practical feasibility of the method following the 2025 amendment of § 90(22) of Act No. 114/1992 Sb. Short-term results showed a mosaic burn of 1.5 ha of grassland, rapid vegetation recovery and the presence of thermophilous invertebrates within three weeks. Práca sa zaoberá potenciálom riadeného (predpísaného) vypaľovania ako nástroja manažmentu krajiny a ochrany prírody, s ťažiskom na podmienky Českej republiky. V prvej časti syntetizuje historický vývoj a súčasnú prax práce s ohňom v Severnej Amerike a Európe, čím odhaľuje kontrast medzi regiónom s dlhou tradíciou aktívneho využívania ohňa a stredoeurópskym prostredím, kde bol oheň v 20. storočí takmer úplne potláčaný. Analýzou vedeckých publikácií, právnych predpisov a inštitucionálnych správ identifikuje kľúčové ekologické prínosy (obnova vrstvy bylín a vresov, redukcia palivovej biomasy, podpora pyrofytných druhov) i možné riziká (emisie jemných častíc, odtok a erózia na svahoch, nízka spoločenská akceptácia). Súčasťou práce je podrobné spracovanie prípadovej štúdie riadeného vypaľovania v NP Podyjí (marec 2025), ktorá demonštruje praktickú uskutočniteľnosť metódy po legislatívnej novele § 90 ods. 22 zákona 114/1992 Sb. Krátkodobé výsledky ukázali mozaikovité vypálenie 1,5 ha trávnej plochy s rýchlou regeneráciou vegetácie a výskytom teplomilných bezstavovcov do troch týždňov po zásahu. Diskusia prepája zistenia s klimatickými výzvami a formuluje odporúčania: vypracovanie národnej metodiky, dlhodobý ekologický monitoring, rozvoj odborných kapacít a transparentnú komunikáciu s verejnosťou....
