This thesis examines the London Blitz and its depictions in three selected literary works, namely Sarah Waters' The Night Watch, Henry Green's Caught and James Hanley's No Directions. This thesis delivers a comparative analysis of the three texts and their depictions of London Blitz with regard to historical reality. The thesis is based on the detailed research presented in the opening part of the thesis. It also contains a review of World War II literature and the literary context for the studied texts. The analyses of the individual texts and the following comparison highlights the different approaches the authors chose to portray the Blitz. Sarah Waters describes the Blitz through the psychological and emotional side of her protagonists combined with retrospective narration. Henry Green describes the Blitz through his own experiences as a volunteer firefighter using a fragmented narrative style. James Hanley uses an experimental writing style that reflects the tense and chaotic atmosphere during the air-raids and bombing. What all authors have in common is a refusal to mythologise and romanticise the Blitz and therefore, their depictions of the Blitz can be considered plausible representations of the wartime reality. Diplomová práce se věnuje období londýnskému Blitzu a jeho vyobrazením ve třech vybraných literárních dílech, románech The Night Watch Sarah Watersové, Caught Henryho Greena a No Directions Jamese Hanleyho. Jedná se o komparativní analýzu tří textů a jejich ztvárnění období londýnského Blitzu v porovnání s dobovou realitou. Práce vychází z podrobného prozkoumání historického kontextu, který je zahrnut v teoretické části. Dále obsahuje přehled válečné literatury, do níž jsou zkoumaná díla zařazena. Analytická část zkoumá, jak se autoři rozhodli londýnský Blitz vyobrazit ve vybraných dílech, a dále jsou tyto výsledky porovnány. Z analýzy vyplývá rozdílnost v pojetí vyobrazení Blitzu u těchto tří autorů. Sarah Waters líčí období Blitzu prostřednictvím psychologické stránky, vnímání a prožitků svých protagonistů v kombinaci s retrospektivou. Henry Green popisuje Blitz skrze své vlastní zkušenosti z působení v dobrovolném hasičském sboru za použití fragmentovaného stylu vyprávění. James Hanley využívá experimentální styl vyprávění, který odráží napjatou a chaotickou atmosféru při náletech a bombardování. Všechny tyto autory spojuje to, že nepřispívají k mytologizaci a romantizaci Blitzu, a tudíž jejich vyobrazení Blitzu mohou být považována za věrohodné obrazy válečné reality.
