Bakalárska práca mapuje vzťah ruského divadelného režiséra a pedagóga Michaila Alexandroviča Čechova k medzivojnovému Československu. Z jeho bohatých umeleckých aktivít v MCHATe a neskôr na rôznych európskych scénach vyberá tie, ktoré mali alebo mohli mať priamy vplyv na podobu jeho divadla u nás. S pražským divákom sa Čechov prvýkrát stretol v roku 1922 počas hosťovania Prvého štúdia MCHAT, ktoré viedol. Prívetivosť ČSR k ruskej emigrácii i dobré vzťahy s našimi kultúrnymi elitami sa napokon na začiatku 30. rokov pokúsil využiť k založeniu vlastného divadla v Československu. Týmto snahám je venovaná hlavná časť práce. Vychádzajúc z dochovanej korešpondencie M. Čechova s J. Kvapilom, K. Čapkom a Kanceláriou prezidenta T. G. Masaryka sa snaží o rekonštrukciu možnej podoby tohoto divadla a podrobnejšie analyzuje procesy vedúce k stroskotaniu jeho ambiciózneho plánu. This bachelor's thesis explores the relationship between Russian theatre director and pedagogue Mikhail Alexandrovich Chekhov and interwar Czechoslovakia. Drawing from his extensive artistic career with the Moscow Art Theatre (MCHAT) and later on various European stages, the study highlights those activities that had, or could have had, a direct impact on the development of theatre in Czechoslovakia. Chekhov first appeared before a Prague audience in 1922 during a guest performance by the First Studio of the MCHAT, which he led. The welcoming attitude of Czechoslovakia toward Russian émigrés and Chekhov's strong connections with local cultural elites eventually led him, in the early 1930s, to attempt to establish his own theatre in the country. The main focus of the thesis is on these efforts. Based on surviving correspondence between M. Chekhov and notable Czech figures such as Jaroslav Kvapil, Karel Čapek, and the Office of President Tomáš G. Masaryk, the thesis reconstructs the envisioned form of this theatre and offers a detailed analysis of the factors that ultimately led to the failure of Chekhov's ambitious plan.
