This thesis analyses the work The Three Halves of Ino Moxo and Other Wizards of the Amazon by the Peruvian author César Calvo, focusing on the animal symbols that can be found in the work and which we will discuss. Animal and his figurative sense are an important part of Calvo's narration about a journey into the depths of the Amazonian rainforest to meet an Amawaka chief and shaman Ino Moxo. For many of the native American cultures, some animals - in this particular work mainly the jaguar - become sacred and totem thanks to their exceptional qualities. Totem animal - a concept which we will also discuss, is therefore a basis for symbolic transferring of these qualities to extraordinarily strong or intelligent individuals. Another important part of the book is formed by the author's encounters with other traditional Peruvian healers, accompanied by visions induced by ayahuasca, a psychedelic plant. These visions are deeply connected with the mythological world of the native Peruvian inhabitants, and animals living in this region tend to appear in them. The goal of this work is therefore to describe to the reader the symbolic world of the animals of the Amazonian rainforest.
