This thesis investigates the influence of constituent complexity on the positioning of prepositional phrases within Dutch omdat clauses. More specifically, it examines to what extent the length - understood as a measure of complexity - of adverbials of time and place correlates with their preferred position in the clause: before or after the second verbal pole. Based on the 'complexiteitsprincipe'(principle of complexity), it is hypothesized that longer (more complex) prepositional phrases are more likely to appear in the postfield. The theoretical part outlines the structure of the Dutch clause and discusses the most important principles influencing word order, such as the left-right principle, the inherence principle, and the pole principle. The principle of complexity is then examined in greater detail, including an overview of studies relevant to this research. The empirical part consists of a corpus analysis of contemporary, written journalistic texts from the corpus of the Netherlands Dutch. Prepositional phrases functioning as adverbials of time or place were filtered from the corpus and categorized based on their length. The analysis shows that, for both temporal and locative adverbials, the likelihood of postverbal placement increases with constituent length. The results of this analysis... Tato práce zkoumá vliv složitosti na umístění předložkových frází v nizozemských vedlejších větách s omdat. Konkrétněji se zabývá tím, do jaké míry délka - chápaná jako míra složitosti - příslovečných určení času a místa souvisí s jejich preferovaným umístěním ve vedlejší větě: před nebo za druhým větným pólem. Na základě "complexiteitsprincipe" (doslova: principu složitosti) se předpokládá, že delší (složitější) předložkové fráze mají větší šanci vyskytovat se za druhým větným pólem. Teoretická část popisuje strukturu nizozemské věty a věnuje se nejdůležitějším principům ovlivňujícím slovosled, jako je left-right principle (lze přirovnat k aktuálnímu členění větnému), princip inherence a princip pólů. Poté je podrobně vysvětlen princip složitosti a následuje přehled studií relevantních pro tento výzkum. Empirická část sestává z korpusové analýzy současných psaných žurnalistických textů v nizozemštině (nizozemská varianta). Z korpusu byly vyfiltrovány předložkové fráze fungující jako příslovečná určení času nebo místa a následně byly kategorizovány podle délky. Analýza ukazuje, že u příslovečných určení času i místa se pravděpodobnost umístění za slovesem zvyšuje s jejich narůstající délkou. Výsledky této analýzy přispívají k lepšímu pochopení použitelnosti principu složitosti v uspořádání...
