This thesis focuses on the outcomes of physics education of students at the end of upper secondary school in the Czech Republic. We present conclusions from a questionnaire survey conducted among physics teachers and final-year students, based on a literature review. The study mapped the number of physics lessons in upper secondary schools and the format of the final physics exam in the Czech Republic and selected countries. The core of the thesis are the results of the repeated specialized physics test TIMSS Advanced 1995, which was taken by 1 794 final-year students from 81 general upper secondary schools across the Czech Republic in 2023. In 1995, this test was taken by 819 students from 90 schools. In addition to comparing the overall test scores, we also present results by content areas, changes in mean achievement in individual test items, results of boys and girls, and results of selected groups of students. The test data are processed first by classical test theory and then by the Item Response Theory. Final chapter of the thesis contains a series of physics problems that might be used to verify the physics knowledge of general upper secondary school students.
