This thesis explores the evolution of Indigenous historical interpretation at Colonial Williamsburg, with a particular focus on the American Indian Initiative (AII) between 2003 and 2015. Although American Indian history was largely overlooked for much of the museum's existence, Native People played a significant role in the colonial era that Colonial Williamsburg seeks to represent. Using the case of Indigenous interpretation, the study examines the museum's broader shift toward more inclusive and decolonizing practices. Drawing on archival research, interpretive plans, and interviews with AII staff, it analyzes programming strategies, community collaboration, interpretive approaches and portrayal of the American Indians within the museum's programs. It argues that the AII played a crucial role in reframing Native presence in Williamsburg from marginal and passive to active and sovereign. The findings demonstrate how living history museums can serve as meaningful spaces for Indigenous representation and historical reimagining. Tato práce se zabývá vývojem historické interpretace původních obyvatel v muzeu Colonial Williamsburg. Zejména se zaměřuje na American Indian Initiative (AII) v letech 2003 až 2015. Ačkoli byla historie původních obyvatel po většinu doby existence muzea přehlížena, tak původní obyvatelé hráli v koloniální historii Spojených států významnou roli. Na příkladu interpretace dějin původních obyvatel studie zkoumá širší posun muzea směrem k inkluzivnější a dekolonizační prezentaci dějin. Práce na základě archivního výzkumu, interpretačních plánů a rozhovorů se zaměstnanci AII, analyzuje programové strategie, spolupráci s komunitami, přístupy k historické interpretaci a samotné prezentování původních obyvatel v rámci programů muzea. Z práce vyplývá, že AII sehrála klíčovou roli při formování narativu ohledně přítomnosti původních obyvatel ve Williamsburgu, a při prezentaci jejich role v koloniálním období z marginální a pasivní na aktivní a suverénní. Na základě poznatků z výzkumu práce ukazuje, jak mohou živá muzea sloužit jako vhodné prostory pro reprezentaci původních obyvatel.
