Flexibilita energetického metabolismu je zásadní nástroj pro zajištění energie pro růst, vývoj a obranu organizmu. U rostlin se odvíjí od vlastností, diverzity a interakcí složek sacharidového metabolismu, a jejich schopnosti uchovávat a rozdělovat energii pohotově podle okolních podmínek. Některé rostliny vedle hexóz, sacharózy a škrobu využívají i cukerné alkoholy. Ty jsou oproti aldózám a ketózám chemicky stabilnější, neredukující a nadto fungují jako kompatibilní soluty a efektivní zhášeče ROS. Jedním z nejběžnějších je u rostlin sorbitol, který nalezneme u zástupců čeledí Rosaceae a Plantaginaceae. U Plantaginaceae je prokázána role sorbitolu při obraně před abiotickými stresy. O distribuci a alokaci sorbitolu za různých podmínek je u těchto rostlin ale velmi málo informací. Předkládaná práce se věnuje změnám obsahu a spektra rozpustných sacharidů a škrobu za kontrastních podmínek bohaté a limitující dostupnosti energie a zkoumá možnosti aplikací regulátorů sacharidového metabolizmu endogenní rovnováhu vychýlit, a tak přispět k pochopení role sorbitolu za různých podmínek a mechanismů, které jeho metabolizmus řídí. Jako modelový druh byl využit jitrocel kopinatý (Plantago lanceolata). Za energeticky luxusních podmínek (16h fotoperioda) rostliny alokovaly většinu asimilátů do bohatého poolu... The flexibility of energy metabolism is crucial for ensuring energy supply for growth, development, and defense in organisms. In plants, this flexibility is underpinned by the properties, diversity, and interactions of components within carbohydrate metabolism, as well as their ability to store and distribute energy efficiently according to environmental conditions. Besides hexoses, sucrose, and starch, some plants also utilize sugar alcohols. Compared to aldoses and ketoses, sugar alcohols are chemically more stable, non-reducing, and additionally function as compatible solutes and effective quenchers of reactive oxygen species (ROS). One of the most common sugar alcohols in plants is sorbitol, which is found in species of the Rosaceae and Plantaginaceae families. In Plantaginaceae, the role of sorbitol in defense against abiotic stresses has been demonstrated. However, information about the distribution and allocation of sorbitol under different conditions is scarce in these plants. The presented work addresses changes in the content and spectrum of soluble carbohydrates and starch under contrasting conditions of abundant and limited energy availability.
