This thesis deals with the stress–strain analysis of the first metatarsophalangeal joint, including an assessment of different loading conditions and their influence on the mechanical interaction between fixation components and bone tissue. The first part describes the problem context and relevant background knowledge necessary to understand the topic, followed by a review of related research studies. In the second part, the procedure for developing the computational model and its sub-models of geometry, material, loading and constraints is described in detail. Subsequently, an analysis of the stress–strain states is performed, and results from computational modelling using the finite element method are presented. In the results section, the influence of different loading conditions on the postoperative mechanical behavior is evaluated, along with the mechanical interaction between the fixation components and bone tissue based on Frost’s hypothesis. The final section discusses the results obtained and outlines their potential implications.
