This paper looks at how to manage the tritiated water produced by nuclear power plants. It is intended to provide detailed information on the function of separation methods such as distillation, electrolysis, isotopic exchange, and combinations thereof. Their advantages and disadvantages are described. Reference will be made to selected nanotechnologies which may outline further avenues of research into tritium separation. In addition, this thesis will evaluate the possibilities of discharge and disposal of water into the environment, with reference to the current status of water treatment at the Temelín and Fukushima I nuclear power plants. Finally measures will be proposed for future years of tritium management.
