This thesis focuses on the design of side floors for a Formula Student race car. The side floors are one of the aerodynamic components of the car. The downforce they generate has a positive effect on the maximum lateral force that the tires can transmit to the road surface, thus significantly improving lap times. The current design process requires a high degree of manual effort to create individual geometry variants. This thesis employs CFD simulations combined with the gradient-based adjoint optimization method for the aerodynamic design. Several geometry versions were proposed, and the best-performing side floor geometry was subsequently integrated into the full Formula Student race car.
