This bachelor thesis analyses the current and future energy mix of the European Union with a focus on electricity generation. In the introduction, the main strategic objectives of the EU in the field of decarbonisation and renewable energy development are presented. This is followed by an overview of the shares of different electricity sources in the EU and their evolution between 1990 and 2023. Three Member States – Poland, France and Denmark – representing different approaches to energy policy are analysed in more detail. For each country, the current status, planned developments and an overview of the most important power plants are described. The work is based on publicly available data and official policy documents. The result is a synthesis of the key trends in the European electricity sector, showing the differences between countries and the common direction towards a more sustainable energy system.
