cze Abstract:
[cze][eng] This study aims to examine differences in foraging strategies between the invasive gibel carp (Carassius gibelio) and the native crucian carp (Carassius carassius) under controlled conditions. The research investigates species-specific foraging efficiency and behavioural traits by contrasting their ability to utilize benthic larvae of Chironomus plumosus and two size classes of pelagic Daphnia galeata in different water clarity environments, in clean and turbid water. Consistent to our hypotheses based on field observations, gibel carp consistently outperformed crucian carp with significantly higher values in terms of prey capture rates, activity and boldness. According to these results, the invasive gibel carp has a considerable competitive advantage in diverse habitats, which may contribute to the decline of crucian carp populations in ecosystems where both species coexist.Annotation This study aims to examine differences in foraging strategies between the invasive gibel carp (Carassius gibelio) and the native crucian carp (Carassius carassius) under controlled conditions.
