Abstract: This paper deals with lithium-ion batteries, specifically the electrolytes used. The degradation mechanisms oflithium-ion batteries are addressed, with a focus on electrolytedegradation. A considerable part is then devoted to thedegradation of lithium hexafluorophosphate, especially afterexposure to water or moisture. The decomposition of the lithiumsalt is linked to the evolution of hydrofluoric acid, whose influenceon the electrolyte parameters and methods of fast detection is thesubject of the experimental section.
Keywords: degradationmechanisms; electrolytes; fast detection; lithium-ion batteries; safety; water contamination
