The research study examines the waste management impacts on health and environment in Upper East region in Ghana. The thesis used data in period of 1984 to 2009. Waste management is one the biggest issues in Ghana. The population growth is one of the factors which affect growth of waste generated by people. Also, in region the people have poor access to sanitation, clear water, finance, insufficient legislation in government and to basic hygiene services. The poor treatment of waste can occur in serious health and environmental impacts. For heath impacts such diseases as malaria, cholera, diarrhoea, and tuberculosis. In environment impacts such as air pollution, water pollution, land contaminated and degradation. The finding in the research show that poor treatment of waste has serious impact on health and environment. Especially disposal method burning on landfills, when the waste is burning the gases are released and they have serious impacts on environment. Studie se zabývá likvidací odpadů a jejich dopady na zdraví a životní prostředí ve východní oblasti v Ghaně. Práce používá data v období let 1984 až 2009. Likvidace odpadů je jeden z největších problémů v Ghaně. Růst populace je jedním z faktorů, které ovlivňují množství odpadu produkovaného lidmi. Také v regionu mají lidé špatný přístup k hygienickým zařízením, čisté vodě, financím, nedostatečnou legislativu ve vládě a základní hygienické služby. Špatné nakládání s odpadem může mít vážné dopady na zdraví a životní prostředí. Dopady na zdraví, jako nemoci, např. malárie, cholera, průjem a tuberkulóza. Do dopadů na životní prostředí patří znečištění vzduchu, znečištění vody, kontaminace a degradace půdy. Ve výzkumu jsme zjistili, že špatné nakládání s odpadem má vážné důsledky na zdraví a životní prostředí. Hlavně likvidace odpadů metodami spalování na skladkách, jelikož když je odpad spalován, unikají do vzduchu plyny, které mají vážné dopady na životní prostředí.
