V lidském těle se vyskytují ve stratum corneum, nejsvrchnější vrstvě epidermis, kde jsou součástí kožní bariéry, můžeme je ale nalézt také v mozkové tkáni a uvnitř buněk. Glukosylceramidy jsou nejjednodušší glykosfingolipidy a ve své struktuře obsahují jednu molekulu glukózy. Jsou obsaženy ve všech typech lidských buněk, kde slouží nejen jako prekurzory pro biosyntézu složitějších glykosfingolipidů, ale mají i vlastní fyziologické funkce. Nejvýznamnější je jejich vliv na růst a vývoj buněk, jejich diferenciaci a apoptózu. Poruchy v jejich syntéze nebo degradaci mají za následek vážné zdravotní problémy a zároveň jsou rizikovým faktorem pro budoucí vznik široké škály onemocnění. Jejich úplná absence v organismu je neslučitelná se životem. Podrobnější studium jejich role a mechanismu působení v lidském těle může v budoucnu pomoci lépe pochopit důležité otázky moderní medicíny, zejména v oblasti... They are found in the stratum corneum, the uppermost layer of the epidermis, where they are important part of the skin barrier, but they can also be found in brain tissue and inside human cells. Glucosylceramides are the simplest glycosphingolipids, and they contain a single glucose molecule in their structure. They are found in all types of human cells, where they not only serve as precursors for the biosynthesis of other, more complex glycosphingolipids, but also have their own physiological functions. The most significant is their influence on cell growth, development, differentiation and apoptosis. Disruptions in their synthesis or degradation can lead to serious health problems and are also a risk factor for the future development of a wide range of diseases.
