Tato diplomová práce se zabývá jednotlivými proměnami svatého grálu a snaží se je uvést do kontextu literárního, kulturního, spirituálního a historického v západní Evropě na přelomu 11. - 13. století. Práce se nejprve soustředí na etymologii slova grál, dále pojednává o jeho vztahu s křesťanstvím, především Josefem Arimatejském a sv. Nikodémem, poté charakterizuje rytířskou kulturu a literaturu, vývoj artušovského cyklu a nakonec se zabývá samotnými autory, kteří ve svých románech o hledání svatého grálu využili jeho symboliku a naplnili ji mysticismem. Grálská látka prošla ve středověku, obzvlášť ve 13. století, mnohými proměnami - z pohanského mýtu vznikl křesťanský rytířský román. Práce se pokouší o zjištění všech podob a významů svatého grálu, které se vůbec ve středověkém písemnictví vyskytovaly. This diploma thesis deals with individual transformations of the Holy Grail and tries to put them into a literary, cultural, spiritual and historical context, specifically from the 11th to the 13th century. The work focuses on the etymology of the word grail and its relationship with Christianity (especially Joseph of Arimatia and St. Nicodemus). Then, it characterises knightly culture and literature, the development of the Arthurian cycle, and finally deals with the authors themselves, who, in their novels about the search for the Holy Grail, used its symbolism and filled it with mysticism. The Grail substance went through many changes in the Middle Ages, especially in the 13th century - from a pagan myth to a Christian chivalric novel. The work attempts to decipher all forms and meanings of the Holy Grail that appeared in medieval literature.
