Happiness is a hard-to-define abstract concept, under which each person can imagine something different. However, we can agree that happiness is a state of being in which we feel good. This thesis explores the links between happiness and health and other variables that may influence this feeling using individual ESS study data. The aim of the thesis was to find out which of the populations of the studied countries are the happiest and which socioeconomic, demographic and health characteristics are related to feelings of happiness. The population of Denmark was found to be among the happiest of the studied sample. The respondent's highly rated subjective health, the absence of depression and a life alongside a partner are some of the most significant factors related to the feeling of happiness. On the other hand, the respondent's country of origin and their level of education does not have a large effect on those feelings. Key words: happiness, health, population of Europe, ESS study Šťastie je ťažko definovateľným abstraktným pojmom, pod ktorým si každý človek môže predstaviť niečo iné. Môžeme sa však zhodnúť, že šťastie je stav bytia, v ktorom sa cítime dobre. Diplomová práca sa zaoberá súvislosťami medzi pocitom šťastia a zdravím a ďalšími premennými, ktoré môžu tento pocit ovplyvniť s pomocou využitia individuálnych dát štúdie ESS. Cieľom práce bolo zistiť, ktorá z populácie skúmaných krajín je najšťastnejšia a aké socioekonomické, demografické a zdravotné charakteristiky súvisia s pocitom šťastia. Bolo zistené, že populácia Dánska patrí medzi najšťastnejšiu v skúmanom súbore. Veľmi dobré hodnotené subjektívne zdravie, neprítomnosť depresie a život s partnerom sú najvýznamnejšími pozitívnymi faktormi súvisiacimi s pocitom šťastia. To, z akej krajiny respondent pochádza a aké má vzdelanie, nemá na pociťovanie šťastia veľký účinok. Kľúčové slová: šťastie, zdravie, populácie Európy, štúdia ESS
