(česky): Libye plukovníka al-Qadhdháfího hrála v sedmdesátých a osmdesátých letech 20. století nepříliš významnou úlohu z pohledu ovlivňování mezinárodního prostoru. Přesto však zejména libyjská podpora terorismu a agrese vůči libyjským emigrantům donutily Velkou Británii či Spojené státy k diplomatickým, ekonomickým i vojenským akcím namířeným proti al-Qadhdháfího režimu. V této práci se věnuji především proměně vztahu Spojeného království a Libye v době, kdy britskou ministerskou předsedkyní byla Margaret Thatcherová. Prostřednictvím analýzy parlamentních diskuzí a archivních materiálů z kanceláře premiérky se snažím vylíčit události zmiňovaného období a jejich důsledky. V ústřední části této práce se zabývám obzvláště zavražděním policistky Yvonne Fletcherové, které rozpoutalo diplomatickou rozmíšku mezi Británií a Libyí v roce 1984. Dále je v práci analyzováno americké bombardování Tripolisu a Benghází, jehož cílem bylo oslabit al-Qadhdháfího režim a k němuž dala své svolení také premiérka Thatcherová. Poslední rozebíranou událostí, která měla přesah i do devadesátých let 20. století, je potom teroristický útok na let Pan Am 103, který se udál nad skotským městečkem Lockerbie. (in English): Libya, ruled by colonel al-Qadhdhafi, did not play a very important role in the world politics during the seventies and the eighties of the twentieth century. However, the Libyan support of terrorism and agression towards Libyan emigrats forced Great Britain and United States of America to seek diplomatic, economic and military action against the régime of al-Qadhdhafi. The aim of this work is to characterize the changes in the relationship between the United Kingdom and Libya in the time when Margaret Thatcher was the British Prime Minister. By the means of analysis of parliamentary disscussions and archive materials from the PM's office I try to explain the events of this era and also their consequences. In the core of this thesis I am focusing on the murder of policewoman Yvonne Fletcher, which started off a diplomatic feud between Britain and Libya in 1984. Furthermore, I am trying to analyse the subsequent American bombing of Tripolis and Benghazi to which Margaret Thatcher gave her permission and aid. The last event described in this work is the terrorist attack on the board of the flight Pan Am 103. The plane crashed in the Lockerbie area in Scotland.
