This work examines negative English sentences containing noun phrases with the determiner no and not a/an. The work deals with both English sentences and their Czech equivalents. The first part of this work describes the issue of English negation and the ways it projects into the Czech language. The second part focuses on an analysis of 114 examples (including elliptical sentences) containing the determiner no or not a/an. All the examples were taken from John Irving's novel A Widow For One Year. These examples, together with their Czech counterparts, were gained by means of the ParaConc programme which enables working with multilingual parallel corpora. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zápornými větami se substantivními frázemi s determinátorem no a not a/an. Práce zahrnuje jak anglické věty, tak jejich české ekvivalenty. V první části práce je problematika anglického záporu a jeho promítání do českého jazyka popsána teoreticky. Druhá část zahrnuje analýzu 114 příkladů (včetně eliptických vět) obsahujících determinátor no či not + a/an. Všechny příklady pocházejí z knihy Johna Irvinga Rok Vdovou (A Widow For One Year). Příklady, stejně jako jejich české ekvivalenty, byly získány pomocí programu ParaConc, jenž umožňuje práci s vícejazyčnými korpusy.
