Příspěvek se na základě rozboru průvodců po katedrále sv. Víta a jejích popisů z doby kolem r. 1800 zabývá otázkou, jak tyto texty reflektovaly památný význam katedrály jako kultovního místa a jak se takové úvahy promítaly do uvažování o umělecké hodnotě katedrály jako památky. Oproti barokní tradici spočívala hlavní proměna textu v tom, že opustily zájem o katedrálu jako sakrální památník a začaly ji popisovat jako uměleckou památku. V tomto směru se stal průkopnický text F. L. Ehemanta publikovaný r. 1774. Za hlavní kvality byly označeny iluzívnost a proměnlivost gotického prostoru a světelné efekty v katedrálním interiéru. The text is based on the analysis of guidebooks to the Prague Cathedral and its descriptions from around 1800. The main aim is to analyse the relationship between the reflections on the Cathedral as an ancient place of cult and the evaluation of the artistic qualities of the Cathedral as an artistic monument. As compared to the Baroque tradition, the main change of the texts consists in the shift from considering it as a sacred place to describing it as an artistic monument. The main influence in this way may be ascribed to the text of F. L. Ehemant published in 1774. As the main qualities were described the illusionism of the Gothic space and the varying light effects in the interior of the Cahedral.
