These proceedings contain extended abstracts of the contributions delivered to the conference Iterative methods, preconditioning and numerical PDEs (IMET 2004) held in Prague. The topics of the conference are motivated ny mathematical modelling in science and engineering, which lead to a great interest in discretization methods and solution of the arising systems of linear or nonlinear equations. The advances in numerical simulations strongly depend on the achievements in both efficient numerical solution methods and in using high performance (parallel) computers. The recent trends and progress in numerical solution methods, mostly exploiting iterative techniques, are well documented by the conference papers. Tento sborník obsahuje rozšířené abstrakty referátů přednesených na konferenci Iterační metody, předpodmínění a numerické parciální diferenciální rovnice (IMET 2004), konané v Praze. Témata konference jsou motivována matematickým modelováním ve vědě a technice, které vyvolává velký zájem o diskretizační metody a řešení takto vzniklých soustav lineárních a nelineárních rovnic. Rozvoj numerických simulací silně závisí na pokroku jak v efektivních metodách numerického řešení, tak ve využití vysoce výkonných (paralelních) počítčů. Poslední trendy a vývoj v numerických metodách řešení, většinou využívajících iterační techniky, jsou v článcích konference dobře zdokumentovány.
