The bachelor thesis focuses on the phenomenon of men on parental leave. The theoretical part deals with the role of mothers and predominantly fathers in families, their development and changes. Furthermore, the thesis monitors the factors that form these roles and is concerned with the most typical stereotypes in this area. The paper is further focused on the legislation of maternity and parental leave, and puts it in the context of the countries of the European Union. These findings are followed supported by the practical part, which, with the help of the semi structured questionnaire, aims at revealing the real reasons why fathers go on parental leave, as well as at mapping the problems they mostly encounter. Finally, the work looks into the way this new trend is accepted by society, from the fathers' point of view.
