Development of the national cultural identity, traditions and values in the subject of Czech language at elementary schools

This thesis examines changes and evolvement in conceptual notions of nationalism and national identity from the beginning of the 19th century until present. The thesis is composed of two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part delineates the concepts of nation, national identity and attempts to characterize Czech national identity. Further, it explores the notion in the context of socio-political transformations in our motherland. Moreover, this section looks at notions of education and patriotic education and the way such education was exercised in schools in particular historical periods. The study also concentrates on the concept of mother tongue and its role in building Czech national identity. Comparison of various ways the relationship towards mother tongue in various types of primary schools in this and last century is likewise offered. The practical part consists of two research segments. The first one analyzes various curricula, school material and textbooks from the beginning of the last century until present with emphasis on patriotic education. Media representation of the Czech national identity in the historical TV show DějePIC!

The bachelor thesis deals with the representation of Czech national identity in the show called DějePIC! (2017). It's a family TV cycle about Czech history. The thesis is based on the assumption, that the media participate on defining the concept. The outcome of this thesis is the analysis of the interpretations of Czech national identity in the chosen show. The analysis focuses mainly at the presentation of symbols, events, personalities and the characteristics of Czech national identity. The aim of this thesis is to answer the question how and in what relations is the Czech national identity presented in the show DějePIC!. In the first part I presented the key theoretical concepts, which are the national identity and the connected collective memory, then medial construction of reality and the forming of national identity in media. The second part of the thesis is empirical, and it consists of the analysis. Due to the nature of the analysis I'm using the qualitative methodology. Gastro-diplomacy of France: traditional "brand" and modern trends

Gastronomy belongs among the important elements of the French national identity and at the same time it is one of the main tourist attractions. Which place and why does the gastronomy have among the modern trends of public diplomacy and how is the French gastro-diplomacy formed on the online social media? There are certain long-lasting tensions visible in the French gastronomic discourse, for example between the Republican idea of unity and the foreign policy strategy of supporting diversity. However, historical research shows that these aspects are not excluding one another, they are more like two sides of the same coin. Gastro-diplomacy is then understood as a narrow dimension of the foreign policy, namely as a part of public cultural diplomacy. In the framework of contemporary French gastro-diplomacy, it is possible to observe the employment of modern instruments, such as the communication through online social networks. Combined with the bet on the long-standing good image of French cuisine, it is one of the ways in which France prove successful in the international arena. Analyzuje, zda a jakým způsobem se panovnice podílí na udržování britské národní identity. Nejprve rozebírá přibližuje složitost tohoto pojmu a směry, kterými lze národní identitě přistupovat. Manifestations and rate of patriotism and fanfare in daily newspapers on the example of the czech and the slovak national hockey team

The thesis examines whether Czech and Slovak printed national daily newspapers reveal expressions of patriotism and fanfare in ice-hockey news reports. Sports matches between two nations, which once formed one state, have all the requisites for being more special and prestigious than regular matchups. For this reason, these two events have been selected as suitable for analysis: the final match in the 2000 World Championship between the Czech Republic and Slovakia (5:3) and the 2012 semifinal between the same opponents (1:3). The theoretical part introduces concepts of nation, nationalism, national identity, national symbols, myths, stereotypisation and fanfare. In the empirical part, a discourse analysis is performed for their examination and application on a research sample, which consists of texts from the time of the given matches between the Czech and Slovak national teams. As an assistant method, a quantitative content analysis has been chosen to provide answers to questions concerning the number and location of articles in each country's newspapers. Securitization of Migration in the 2017 French Presidential Election

Far-right parties and anti-immigration moods were on the rise in 2017 European politics. After Brexit vote and Donald Trump's triumph in the US elections, whole world was watching the 2017 French presidential election with great vigilance. Using the method of discourse analysis, the principal objective of this master thesis is to identify to what extent was the immigration constructed as security threat in presidential election and how did major presidential candidates use political discourse for identity construction - positive representation of French Self and negative representation of Migrant Other. For the purpose of analysis, first three presidential candidates with the largest share of votes were chosen: François Fillon, Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron. Concerning the theoretical framework, all research stems from Copenhagen school which defines vital concepts for our research: societal security and securitization process. From methodological point of view, Lene Hansen's Self/Other identity construction model is used. Construction of national identity in Eurovision Song Contest: case study

The diploma thesis Construction of National Identity in Eurovision Song Contest: Case Study analyses the ways and forms of shaping the Czech national identity in the Eurovision Song Contest, the largest and most watched international festival of popular music in the world. In particular, the thesis aims to identify the manifestation of identity and self-presentation of the Czech Republic from the point of view of a media institution, in the national selection, in the form of the entry itself, in postcards and video clips as well as through voting and viewer ratings. These findings were attained by the combination of three research methods, namely semi-structured interviews with media professionals, qualitative content analyses of audio- visual materials and secondary data analysis. The theoretical framework presents basic concepts of identity formation and nationalism, and provides an in-depth presentation of the Eurovision Song Contest from geopolitical and sociocultural perspectives. Ice hockey as a symbol of national identity: the Czech society 20 years after the Nagano triumph

This bachelor's thesis deals with the process of building national identity through sport, specifically ice hockey. The thesis focuses primarily on the aspects contributing to the reproduction of the Czech national identity. Important aspects are mainly symbols, which remind us of the individual's belonging to the nation, as well as the media, which significantly help to the mythization of sports events. One of the events that played an important role in the formation of the Czech national identity is the 1998 Nagano Olympics. The success of the Czech hockey team in this tournament made part of the history twenty years ago; there are still many legacies of this triumph nowadays. The thesis is based on a research that combined several methods. I obtained the data through participant observation of the national team matches broadcasts, I also analysed documents that referred to the legacies of Czech victory, and I carried out semi-structured interviews with ice hockey fans. The interviews suggest that the victory of the Nagano hockey players, with the contribution of the media and banal nationalism, underwent the process of mythization, and thus played a significant role in the Czech national identity building.

This thesis is focused on education concerning the National Theatre in the subject Education for Citizenship and also finding out the attitudes of the primary school second grade students towards the National Theatre the symbol of the Czech national identity and cultural heritage. The first part generally describes curriculum documents at the national and academic level with additional analysis of specific academic educational documents of chosen primary schools in relation to the chosen topic. The second part zooms in on the history, the symbolic meaning and the present organizational structure of the National Theatre. The third part summarizes the results of the questionnaire which was obtained from chosen primary schools. The summary also includes evaluation of interviews with some respondents.
