A commented translation of slovenian book: Jasmin B. Frelih Ideoluzije

The goal of this diploma thesis is to create an annotated Czech translation of a literary text. Specifically, the selected three short stories from the collection Ideoluzije (2015) by a Slovenian writer Jasmin B. Frelih. The stories chosen for translation are De Nachtwacht, Vrabci and Pritisk konca. The first part of the thesis briefly introduces the author and his work. The main focus of the work is the translation of selected short stories and creating a professional commentary. The theoretical-practical part deals with individual phenomena that may be problematic in translation, such as neologisms, vulgarisms, interjections, etc. The theoretical interpretation is supported by examples from the short stories. This thesis aims to clarify translation procedures and methods as well as to present solutions to the problems mentioned.
An author just for Germanists? To the reception of Thomas Bernhard in Czechia after 1989

The diploma thesis is concerned with reception of the Austrian novelist and playwright Thomas Bernhard in the Czech Republic after 1989. The piece of work mainly focuses on how the writer was presented to the Czech society. The thesis also responds to the statement of the Czech Germanist Milan Tvrdík who said, in 1995, that Thomas Bernhard still awaits discovery of his writings in the Czech Republic and, so far, is an author mostly for Germanists. Theoretical framework of the work is based on the reception theory of Constance school. The research is mainly focused on the Czech translations of the Bernhard's books which contain epilogues and editorial notes, then on the reviews of the Bernhard's plays introduced in the Czech theatres between 1989 and 2019. Considering the fact that some adaptations of Bernhard's plays in our country offered an interesting link between Czech and Slovakian acting scene, an insight of the Bernhard's reception in Slovakia is a part of the work. The analysis takes into consideration external factors, too. These factors are translators, editors, or individual publishing houses Prostor, Mladá Fronta, Divadelní ústav or Odeon, which have influenced the reception of Bernhard's work in the Czech Republic. Naturalism in French and European literatur

The diploma thesis Naturalism in French and European literature deals with the French literary movement naturalism. The first aim of the thesis is to determine the scope of naturalism and its influence on other European literatures and writers. The second aim is to conduct a research on the way naturalism is taught in Czech schools and to map to what extent the theoretical knowledge is reflected in school practice. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the literary naturalism as such, on its development and characteristics and it introduces French and European naturalist writers and their most important works. The thesis is interested in the influence of French naturalism on European literature. The practical part, or the research, is concerned with the teaching of the topic of the literary naturalism at Czech grammar schools. It examines the impact of this movement in the Czech context, the attitude of individual teachers and the amount of time devoted to this topic in the classes. The practical part also studies which writers are dealt with in the classes and which works are regardedas exemplary.
