Acculturation of the immigrant women the case of women immigrants from Ukraine and Arab countries
Koropecká, Markéta
This thesis examines the acculturation process of women immigrant to Czech cultural environment. Acculturation can be defined as adaptation to cultural environment other than the individual was born in. Just like the other phases of international migration, this process is gendered, i.e. influenced by roles, norms and patterns of behavior assigned to women and men by society. Experts have shown that women experience acculturation differently than men. Due to their reproductive role they are considered to be carriers and protectors of immigrant groups' cultural identity and are expected to transmit cultural values to the future generations. The acculturation process' assessment was based on theory of stress and coping. For qualitative research, two groups of immigrant women, from Ukraine and Arab countries, were selected. The main objective of this work was to determine whether the respondents from these countries were experiencing acculturative stress during their adaptation to new cultural environments, how they coped with this stress and also what influenced their acculturation in Czech environment. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the respondents and were evaluated using qualitative content analysis. Keywords: acculturation, culture, gender, Ukrainian women, women from Arab countries

Multi-function Cultural Centre "Creative City" in Brno
Sekaninová, Jitka ; Novák,, Petr (referee) ; Vojtová, Lea (advisor)
The thesis is a radical reconstruction and completion of a unique brownfield for cultural purposes, incubator of creativity, business and housing. The building is a former penitentiary near the city center between streets Bratislavská, Soudní and Cejl. It is a historical building which is currently unused. The complex for starting young entrepreneurs in a field of culture is supposed to serve as a center for a general public of art, particularly for the areas of so called industry of creativity such as architects, designers, painters, sculptors and also musicians, designers and developers of computer games. The building is historically valuable, especially due to the original vaults in the old part of the building which remain preserverd as much as possible. Only a part of a west wing has been demolished in order to construct a new expressive form as a shape of crystal which attracts the public from the Cejl street as it could be easily overlooked otherwise. The crystal has become a dominant part of the building and servers as a main entrance. A newer, less valuable part of the complex from the Bratislavská street, has been razed so there could be an underground parking and new extensions built serving the commercial and administrative purposes. The extenstions are the two operationally and structurally separated buildings allowing opening the entire area. A coridor which these two extensions create in between expands in a direction towards the legacy parts of the complex, thus the passers-by from a general public are pulled into the creative center through an attractive front-place. The original layou of each wing is retained what influenced their functional use decently. There are studios and workshops for artists located in the existing two floors along with multi-purpose hall, design market and theater hall with a trial rooms. There are additional studios, school of art with drawing and reading rooms and commercial areas situated in the extended floors.

The influence of the expulsion and replacement of Sudeten Germans in Kraslice
Banzl, Marcel ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šmidrkal, Václav (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the effect of the forced expulsion of Germans from the town of Kraslice, and the replacement of the original population with newly arrived colonists from then-Czechoslovakia and other Eastern European countries in the 20th century. The introductory chapters provide historical context by describing Kraslice's history and the town's most prominent cultural and economic characteristics, and describe the process of expulsion in Kraslice. The core of the thesis is dedicated to both the short-term and long-term effects of population replacement. The post-war change in the local economy was mostly driven by the consolidation of pre-existing German businesses into two state-controlled companies, whose continuing function was key to the town's success. This transformation is therefore described with regards to its effects on Kraslice up to the present day. Due to strong anti-German sentiment after WWII, Kraslice's original culture was entirely wiped out (both figuratively and literally, as exemplified by the destruction of historical buildings) and replaced by the state-sanctioned "Slavic" culture, which was in reality a front for communist propaganda. For this reason, this thesis also details the absence of any cultural ties today's Kraslice has to the hundreds of years of...

Hostašová, Jana ; Chavalka, Jakub (advisor) ; Novák, Aleš (referee)
The main aim of this thesis is the analysis, characterization and emphasis of the phenomenon of Free Spirit in Nietzsche's Human, All Too Human, volumes I. and II. The thesis attempts to portray the Free Spirit as a holistic concept which, in addition, converges Nietzsche's most prevalent subjects, the criticism of religion, metaphysics and culture, and the importance of education and development. The character of Free Spirit shall be used to illustrate Nietzsche's vision of the future and the possible roads, which lead to it shall be described. In the first part of the thesis, I intend to focus on the creation of the Free Spirit with emphasis on "the great liberation" and on the circumstances from which it emerges, especially in contrast to the fettered spirit. The central motive then shifts to the importance of culture, its development and escalation and its cohesion with the Free Spirit. The final part is dedicated to the effects of the Free Spirit, its tasks and possibilities, which it has for the free ranging spirit. I shall introduce the free ranging spirit as a practical manifestation of Nietzsche's thoughts and I intend to lead my exposition in that direction. An important part of the thesis is to unveil Nietzsche's thinking as centred around researching and observing humans, which is then...
Education in the geographical context of the Ladakh's village Mulbeck
Kalusová, Adéla ; Novotný, Josef (advisor) ; Kolomazníková, Jana (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on primary education in India with own empirical case study of the village of Mulbeck in the region of Ladakh in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Author explored the role of education in the lives of local residents and the function of the Spring Dales Public School in the specific context of the local cultural and natural environment. Own field research was realized through the author's stay in the village as a volunteer placement organized by an NGO Brontosauři in the Himalayas that supports the Spring Dale Public School. The collection of data took place during July 2017. The author conducted 31 semi-structured interviews with various local agents who are directly or indirectly involved in the school functioning. The interviews were analyzed using qualitative research methods. The findings from interviews suggested that both the access and perceived importance of education has change significantly, while it is not only considered as a major factor of a quality employment but of the general development of Mulbeck. This is related to structural changes in employment with more people looking for a work in the tertiary sector. Modernization and structural change, nevertheless, do not seem to weaken perceived importance of traditions and local culture but, on the...
